Gentle care

How to wash a colouring blanket, gently

Short answer: the maker presents the blanket as washable and reusable, but gives no temperature and no tumble-dryer advice. So the five steps below take the cautious route: on its own, gentle and cool, dried flat.

Washing a colouring blanket step by step

  1. Read the care label first

The maker's listing gives no washing temperature. If the blanket carries a care label, follow it.

  2. Wash it on its own

Keep the blanket out of a load of light clothes, especially the first time after colouring.

  3. Choose a gentle, cool cycle

With no temperature from the maker, a gentle, cool cycle is the cautious choice. Turn the blanket inside out and use your usual detergent.

  4. Skip the tumble dryer

No tumble-dryer advice is given, so dry it flat or on a line.

  5. Let it dry completely

Wait until it is fully dry before folding it or putting it back on the sofa.

What happens to the colours in the wash

We haven't washed a coloured blanket ourselves yet, and the maker doesn't say what happens to the colour in the wash. So we make no promise either way, and we won't write "100%". If you wash yours, tell us how it went and we will publish real results when we have them.

Washing a colouring blanket with permanent pen on it

Permanent fabric pens are sold to fix the colours of a finished design you want to keep. Use them only on a blanket you want to keep as it is. The included markers and the permanent pens, compared.

Can you colour the blanket more than once?

The maker presents the blanket as washable and reusable, but gives no figure and no detail, and we haven't measured it. So there is no number and no promise on this page.

Drying and storing a colouring blanket

Let it dry completely before folding it, then keep it folded on the sofa or in a drawer. Put the pens away with their caps on, lying flat, so they don't dry out between sessions.
