Adult colouring blanket vs a kids' one: what changes
Type colouring blanket into Google from the UK and most of what comes back is made for children: picnic mats with big cartoon shapes, "for kids" listings, family craft kits. The format works for children because the shapes are large and quick to fill.
An adult wants the opposite: small shapes, lots of them, and a reason to come back the next evening. That is how we chose our patterns. Each one covers the whole blanket with hundreds of small drawings, closer to an adult colouring book than to a play mat.
How detailed are the colouring blanket patterns?
Detailed enough that one evening covers a corner, not the whole throw. Big Blooms packs roses, lilies and daisies into white outlines on black. The Bakery lines up cakes, croissants and pretzels. Country Fair mixes baskets, sunflowers and sewing things.
Every design arrives as plain line art: the coloured photos on this site are examples, so you can see what a few hours of colour look like. The seven patterns are side by side on the home page.
How long does it take to colour a blanket?
We haven't timed it, and we won't make up a number. What we can tell you is the surface: about 150 x 125 cm, nearly two square metres of drawing, covered edge to edge with small shapes.
In practice most people colour it in sessions, a cushion's worth of shapes at a time, and keep it on the sofa in between. There is no rule to finish it: it is a throw from the first evening.
Colouring blanket pens: 24 included, plus a permanent option
The box holds 24 colour markers in different colours, ready for the first evening.
If you finish a design you want to keep, permanent fabric pens are sold as an option for £8.99: a second set to fix the colours. They are not a refill of the markers in the box. Included markers and permanent pens, compared.
Can you use a colouring blanket as a throw afterwards?
Yes. It is soft polyester with a velvet feel, about 150 x 125 cm and around 450 g: the size and weight of a sofa throw. It covers your knees while you colour and stays on the arm of the sofa when you've finished. It is not a duvet, and it won't cover a double bed.
A colouring blanket gift for her, for him or a parent
The people it suits best already like colouring books, crosswords or knitting: something for the hands while the telly is on or the radio plays. It also works for a couple, one corner each, or for a parent who would enjoy colouring next to a grandchild.

Colouring blanket vs adult colouring books
A book gives you pages to finish one at a time and fits in a bag. The blanket gives you one big picture that grows over weeks, can be coloured by two people at once, and ends up as something you use every evening. The book wins on choice of themes; the blanket wins on scale.
If colouring for calm is what you are after, our page on mindful colouring explains what the studies measured, and what they didn't.
Colouring blanket for adults: your questions
Is it too childish for an adult?
No. The patterns are dense line art with hundreds of small shapes, chosen to be coloured slowly by adults. There are no cartoon picnic scenes.
What size is it?
About 150 x 125 cm (59 x 50 in) and around 450 g: a sofa throw.
Can two people colour it at once?
Yes. At about 150 x 125 cm there is room for one person on each side, and there are 24 pens to share.
How quickly does it arrive?
Free UK delivery in 6 to 12 days from your order, tracked.
